STEM & the Trades: George Meany Award & Mike Rowe's Profoundly Disconnected

We are working with the President of Bishop Plumbing and Executive Director of PAMCANI to honor UA President, William Hite with the George Meany Award. "The Significance of the George Meany Award...It is estimated that one out of every four top unit leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Varsity Scout teams, and Venturing crews in the United States is a union member. That’s a lot of union Scout leaders. Thousands of other union members serve youth through the Boy Scouts of America in local districts and councils, and on the regional and national levels."

We are also beginning to explore how to collaborate around addressing the skills gap and tradesman shortage by showcasing related Scouting merit badges i.e. plumbing, welding, American labor to name a few. Here's a photo of our own Nation BSA STEM Specialist, Jessica Ayala-Janscha,  and Eagle Scout, Mike Rowe at the USA Science & Engineer Festival. Watch Mike's interview before the event as he shares his perspective on STEM the skills gap and shortage of tradesmen i.e. steam fitting, pipe fitting, mechanical engineering, construction.
