The Plumbing Council of Chicagoland and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Chicago Area Council continue to work in tandem to launch the inaugural "Labor and Scouting" Dinner and George Meany Award Ceremony honoring UA General President William P. Hite on January 20, 2015 at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel and Towers. This event, which is expected to draw over 3,000 local, national and international guests, will shine a spotlight on UA General President Hite’s ongoing support of the Boy Scouts and his nationally recognized “Veterans in Piping” initiative. It’s main goal is to develop a long-lasting cooperative relationship between the unionized construction trade industry and the Boy Scouts of America to inspire today’s youth into becoming tomorrow’s apprentices.
Leading up to this historic event, a Gala Committee comprised of UA Business Managers, Chicago labor leaders and association industry executives assembled for the second time at the Plumbers Local 130 union hall in Chicago on October 21, 2014. UA International Representative Terrence Urbanek was also in attendance to offer his appreciation on behalf of UA General President Hite and to provide additional support to the Gala Committee.
